Solution to Math Puzzle of the Month
**** The Squash Ball Problem ****

Take six of the eight balls. Put three on each of the two pans of the balance scale. If the
scales balance the heavier ball is one of the
remaining two. Put the remaining two, one on
each pan, and note which side is the heaviest.
If when the three balls are placed on each of
the two pans the pans do not balance, note which
pan is the heaviest. Set the three balls on the
lighter side aside. Of the three remaining balls
place two of the balls on the scale so that one
ball is on each pan. If the scale balances the
third ball is the heaviest. If scale does not
balance the heavest ball is the one on the lower
pan of the scale.
